Major General Paul D. Eaton, US Army (Ret), Senior Advisor

Major General Paul D. Eaton served more than 30 years in the United States Army, including combat and post-combat assignments in Iraq, Bosnia and Somalia. As a major general he was assigned to Iraq as Commanding General of the Coalition Military Assistance Training Team (CMATT), where he developed, designed and began the training of the Iraqi military and security forces from 2003 to 2004. Prior to that assignment, he commanded the Army's Infantry Center and was Chief of Infantry for the Army. Eaton has appeared on Hardball, Face the Nation, and Tavis Smiley discussing US national security and human rights policy. In 2008 Eaton served as an advisor to Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. He holds a bachelor's degree from West Point and a master's in French from Middlebury College. He is married to PJ, has two sons and a daughter, all soldiers.

Heather Hurlburt, Executive Director

From 2002 until she joined the National Security Network, Heather Hurlburt ran her own communications and strategy practice, working on global and political issues with political, entertainment, and educational leaders, as well as groups such as DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa), the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Stanley Foundation, and many others. From 1995-2001, Hurlburt served in the Clinton Administration as Special Assistant and Speechwriter to the President, speechwriter for Secretaries of State Albright and Christopher, and member of the State Department's Policy Planning staff. She has also worked for the International Crisis Group, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the Congressional Helsinki Commission. She is a Senior Adviser to the U.S. in the World Project of Dēmos, and appears frequently as a commentator in print and new media, and is a regular guest on Robert Wright's Blogging Heads TV. Hurlburt holds a BA from Brown University and an MA from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs.

Joel Rubin, Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer

Joel Rubin is the Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer of the National Security Network.  In this capacity, he leads NSN’s policy and congressional relations efforts.  Prior to joining NSN, Joel was both the  Government Affairs Director and Political Director of J Street and JStreetPAC, the political arm of the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement.  Joel also worked on Capitol Hill, where he was an aide to two senior Democratic Senators on foreign policy, defense, and appropriations issues.  He has also held foreign policy positions at the Department of State in both Near Eastern Affairs and Political-Military Affairs, as well as in domestic policy at the Department of Energy in both renewable energy and climate change.   For his academic training, he earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor’s degree in Politics from Brandeis University.  He also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Environmental Education in Costa Rica and currently resides in the Washington, DC area with his wife and two children.

Gina Gallimore, Director of Administration

Gina Gallimore comes to the National Security Network from the ONE Campaign, where she was Project Coordinator of US NGO and Faith Outreach.   Gina spent four years in Johannesburg, South Africa as Regional Office Manager and Trainer working with churches in their response to the HIV/AIDS crisis and community development issues.  Prior to moving to South Africa, she worked for a public relations firm in Nashville, TN.   She holds a BS in Business Communications from Grove City College.

Adam Blickstein, Communications Director

Adam Blickstein has worked in numerous national media and political positions, most recently as Rep. Jane Harman’s Press Secretary. While there, he worked with national and international print, television and radio journalists to promote Harman’s national security and intelligence agendas. Blickstein also worked at CNN’s Washington bureau, providing production and editorial assistance for their election and political coverage. In 2004, he graduated cum laude from Tufts University. While at Tufts he was President of the Tufts Democrats, spent a year at the University College of London, and was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honors Society.

Ryan Keenan, Outreach Director

Ryan Keenan served as Assistant Regional Field Director for the Biden campaign in Northeast Iowa. In 2006, he worked on the Senate campaign of Robert P. Casey (D-PA). Before that, Keenan worked at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague as a Junior Officer in the Assistance and Protection Branch. While at the OPCW, Keenan was awarded a Certificate in Emergency Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Response training, at the Swiss Advanced Field Training Course, in April 2006. He received an MA in International Policy and a Certificate in Nonproliferation Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California. Keenan received his BA in International Studies from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Patrick Barry, Research Associate

Pat Barry comes to NSN from Haverford College, where he earned a BA in History, with a concentration in Nationalism and Political Violence. He is a native of Baltimore, Maryland.

James Lamond, Policy Researcher

Before coming to NSN, James worked on international law, international organizations and transatlantic relations at the Center for American Progress. A regular contributor to Democracy Arsenal, James has also appeared in both domestic and international publications. A native of New Jersey, James received a B.A. in History from Rowan University and a M.S. in Global Affairs from Rutgers University.

Kelsey Hartigan, Policy Researcher

Kelsey Hartigan is the Nonproliferation and Defense Policy Researcher for the National Security Network.  Prior to joining NSN, Kelsey worked with Barry Blechman and the International Security and Nuclear Weapons program at the Henry L. Stimson Center. Kelsey has also interned with the State Department and the US Delegation to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland.  She has spent time studying at Leiden University in the Netherlands as well as at Tec de Monterrey in Queretaro, Mexico. Kelsey is a graduate of Purdue University.
